Jim Shirley will be the keynote speaker at the November I I th luncheon. Mr. Shirley, a frequent emcee at the PAWC Fashion Shows, will discuss his role as the Executive Director of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County. He will explain how his organization ensures that Sarasota remains a top cultural center in Florida.


The alliance oversees and administers the Sarasota Tourist Development Tax Arts Grant program. This program has resulted in more than $45 million in funding for the cultural community in Sarasota County. It supports art organizations, individual artists and art education for children throughout the region.


The alliance was able to prove to business leaders that arts in Sarasota bring $300 million a year in revenue, guaranteeing that the arts will be supported and will remain in Sarasota. Mr. Shirley and his alliance are greatly responsible for keeping Sarasota a wonderful place to live, visit and share.


At the October luncheon, The Palm-Aire Women's Club offered its members the opportunity to sample a buffet luncheon. Members found they enjoyed the variety of the offerings and additional opportunities for mingling. The November luncheon will offer the traditionally served Thanksgiving dinner. Attendees will be asked to comment and decide which type of service they prefer. Be sure to attend the November meeting so you can voice your opinion.


Cost of the special plated Thanksgiving luncheon is $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers Payment must be received by November 4th. The PAWC Charity Committee is collecting toysfor SPARCC at the November Luncheon.


Also at this luncheon, the PAWC Charity Committee will collect new unwrapped toys for the non-profit organization, SPARCC.(Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center). These gifts are for their Holiday Room in which families (who were victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence) can select gifts for their families and children. Items that are requested are: for Parents and Teens - Gift Cards from Target Walmart, TJ Maxx, Old Navy and Fast-Food Places . For children — Barbies, craft kits, basketballs, soccer balls, Pokémon, and Lego kits SPARCC's mission is to stop such domestic and sexual violence in our communities with help, hope and healing with empowerment-based services and programs.


Evan Barniskis , the Associate Vice President of Mote Marine Laboratory's new Science Education Aquarium, was the speaker at the October luncheon. Mr. Barniskis presented a slide presentation of the spectacular new Mote Science Education Aquarium now being built on twelve acres in Nathan Benderson Park.


The spectacular new facility will double the number of visitors and provide hands-on marine science and technology experiences. Exhibits will feature a stunning array of sharks, Atlantic and Pacific coral reef species, manatees, sea turtles, otters and myriad other wildlife. Visitors will glimpse deep sea and remote habitats. Interactive labs will be accessible to schools in this region so that children can discover marine science and technology, firsthand.


The Palm Aire Women's Club invites all to attend luncheons and get involved helping the PAWC grow. This allows the club to continue helping the community.
