WHAT A YEAR!!! WHAT A SEASON!!!!

The historic Palm-Aire Women’s Club was originally founded to help others and make a significant difference in the community. Over the years this club has used its fundraising skills to aid local charities and provide scholarships to deserving local students. Working together to achieve common goals has also helped its members to find and keep friends.

This past year, the PAWC was able to fund six scholarships. They provided these scholarships to the State College of Florida and Manatee Technical College and distributed grants to six underfunded local charities.

The club is also noted for its luncheon programs. Vice President Ann King outdid herself planning last season’s programs. She launched the season with a slide show of the spectacular new Mote Aquarium. Jim Shirley discussed how and why Sarasota is a top cultural center in Florida.

At the December luncheon, attendees received a piano recital worthy of any concert hall performed by award-winning pianist (and PAWC member) Dr. Marsha Kindall-Smith. Her performance was spellbinding, unashamedly showy and virtuosic. Richard Russell, from the Sarasota Opera discussed his collection of over 30,000 fabulous costumes which can be viewed for the price of a ticket. The PAWC celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with “A WEE BIT OF BLARNEY.”

The I HEART FASHION SHOW PROVED TO BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS SPECTACULAR SEASON.

Dillard’s dazzling designs made the show an exciting fashionista experience! Glamorous models rocked the runway to the delight of their audience as they presented styles from activewear to stunning evening gowns. Everyone joined together to raise funds for scholarships and grants to local charities. It was one of the most successful and glamorous events on the Sarasota calendar.

After a fabulous year, the Palm-Aire Women’s Club is looking forward to next year.

Ann is determined to make the 23/24 luncheons just as memorable. In October, Rick Piccolo, the CEO of the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, will discuss the expansion and changes at the airport. November will bring Dr Robyn Bell, the conductor of the Symphonic Band Bradenton Symphony Orchestra. Headlining the Holiday luncheon will be musical actress Ann Morrison. In January, Lee Doughterty Ross, a renowned pianist and vocalist, will appear. March’s luncheon will feature Wendy Deming from the Selby Gardens.

The PAWC Fashion Show “STEPPING OUT” is scheduled for February 23,2024. Co- Chairs Sherry Kenny and Ann King announced that Darci Jacob will sponsor the fashion show. Her downtown Sarasota shop is known for its high-style fashion in a boutique environment. Stay tuned for more information as the planning for the February 2024 Fashion Show continues.

Even though the PAWC season doesn’t officially start until October, Peg McKinley has also planned several luncheon outings for the summer hiatus. The first luncheon will be at Demetrios Restaurant followed by luncheons at Apollonia and the University Park Country Club. Please check emails and the Palm Aire Women’s Club Facebook Page for dates and times.
