CHANGES AND DEVELOPMENTS AT THE MAIRE SELBY BOTANICAL GARDENS WILL BE THE TOPIC OF THE MARCH 22ND PALM-AIRE WOMEN’S CLUB LUNCHEON.

Founded in 1973, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens provides 45 acres of bayfront sanctuaries connecting visitors with air plants, native flora and fauna, and our regional history. Selby Gardens is composed of 15-acres in Downtown Sarasota and 30-acres in Historic Spanish Point. The downtown location is the only botanical garden in the world dedicated to the display and study of epiphytic orchids, bromeliads, gesneriads and ferns, and other tropical plants. The Spanish Point Campus is one of the largest preserves displaying native Florida plants and celebrates approximately 5,000 years of Florida history.

The gardens are an ideal destination for gardeners, nature lovers, and visitors looking for a calm, nature-focused outing in Sarasota. Visitors enjoy strolling through the gardens, visiting the conservatory, and browsing the Museum of Botany and Arts at this oasis.

President and CEO Jennifer Rominiecki has been in charge of the gardens since 2015. Under her leadership the gardens have tripled in size. Ms. Rominiecki will be here to explain her master plan for developing the gardens and the latest changes and developments made to this Sarasota landmark.

One recent change is a new restaurant, named The Green Orchid, which will be a net-positive energy restaurant entirely utilizing solar power. This soon to open restaurant, operated by Michael’s on East, will feature a rooftop edible garden that will provide fresh produce for the menu. The edible garden is being planned, planted and maintained by Operation EcoVets, a nonprofit organization that provides personal, educational, and professional growth opportunities for veterans..

The luncheon will be held at the Palm Aire Country Club and will start at 11:30 AM. Cost of the luncheon is $33 for members and $35 for non-members. Reservations must be received by March 15th.
