THE PAWC I FASHION SHOW AND LUNCHEON WILL TAKE PLACE ON FEBRUARY 3RD 11AM TO 2PM!

Learn the backstage secrets behind the fabulous costumes of the Sarasota Opera at the January 13th luncheon.

Clothes make the man. Did you realize that clothes also make the drama? Costumes are meant to bypass language differences, convey crucial information about the drama and bring the characters to life.

A representative from Sarasota Opera Costumes Division will discuss their historic collection of over 30,000 fabulous costumes. Opera companies all over North America continue to use and rent these costumes. Renowned artists who have worn them include Luciano Pavarotti, Beverly Sills, Marilyn Horne, Norman Treigle and Stephanie Sundine.

Diverse, dramatic and painstakingly crafted, these costumes capture the ever-evolving spirit of the artform. Ornate costumes often involve elaborately brocaded garments festooned with lace and jewels. They use trims such as embroidery, fringe, paddings, puffs, slashings and panels. Sarasota is fortunate indeed to have the largest collection of opera costumes in North America. And the curators are bringing them to the PAWC!

Also at this luncheon, the PAWC Charity Committee is requesting school supplies for the Safe Children’s Coalition.

Cost of the plated luncheon is $30 for members and $35 for non-members. Reservations must be received by January 8th. Please contact Debi Frock at debi.gmhope@gmail.com and confirm your reservation. Checks can be mailed to Debi at: Debi Frock/ PAWC Lunch, 5718 Beaurivage Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34243 or leave at the PACC office. You can also use paypal www.PayPal.me/PalmAireWomensClub.

At the December luncheon, attendees were expecting holiday music and carols. What they received was a piano recital worthy of any concert hall. Award-winning pianist (and PAWC member) Dr. Marsha Kindall-Smith mesmerized her audience, playing works by Mozart, Chopin, Schumann and Work. Her performance was spellbinding, unashamedly showy and virtuosic. She also demonstrated her background in education by giving an insider’s look at the composers’ backstories.

After Marsha’s piano recital was completed , she was joined on stage by Debi Frock. The two led the audience through traditional holiday sing alongs. The audience then received another shock, Debi has been hiding an opera quality voice.

When you attend a PAWC event, you never know what to expect. At the Holly Jolly, hostess Carolann Garafola was startled by a knock on the door. She looked and saw one of Manatee’s finest. Was the party too loud, too many cars on the street, or did the grinch next door ( whose wife was attending) call in a complaint? None of these things. A party goer sat on her phone and made a pocket call. Since all was well, everyone had a good laugh and the party continued.
